Issue of Jammu and Kashmir Raised In Sweden’s Parliament

It has been 115 days since Article 370 has been scraped which had given a special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Sweden has protested against the restrictions and political detention imposed in Jammu and Kashmir. Recently, the Government of India changed the geographical-constitutional position of the state by abolishing the special provisions provided to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370.

In response to a question asked in Sweden’s parliament, Sweden’s Foreign Minister Anne Linde appealed lifting of the restrictions imposed in the state and insisted on a bilateral “political solution” between India and Pakistan.

However, the Government of India has not yet responded to this statement from the Parliament of Sweden. Sweden is one of the countries that supervise the ceasefire between India and Pakistan since 1949 as directed by the United Nations. Currently, 5 out of approximately 40 military observers are from Sweden.
